• A haulier has been jailed for six months, with a further 12 months suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to charges of forgery and obtaining money by deception.
Preston Crown Court heard that Peter Philips, of Station Villas, Hellifield, North Yorks, had set up a haulage firm in Skipton in 1989. He had asked accountant David Wilson's firm to act as accountants, borrowing
money from the firm to set up the business. He eventually owed Wilson £6,000 and the firm £16,000.
Defending, Paul Taylor alleged that Wilson, who was shot dead in March at his luxury farmhouse in Chorley, Lanes, had threatened Philips.
When Philips had difficulty in repaying the debt, Wilson had adopted methods "not usually associated with an accountant",
