first Scania coach, a topspecification K112R threeaxle double-deck vehicle fitted with Plaxtons Paramount coachwork.
The coach, one of 13 double-deckers operated by the company, will be used on twice weekly shuttles to Spain. A Scania DS11-03 227kW engine powers the vehicle through a GS771 ten-speed gearbox fitted with Computer Assisted Gear Selection (CAG).
The Plaxtons Paramount 4000MS body seats 67, with 5,3 on the upper deck and features a double courier seat, driver's bunk, video, six televisions, a kitchen, refrigerator, drinks machine and toilet. • Transport Secretary Paul Channon has announced provisional figures for public transport expenditure by Metropolitan Transport Authorities in 1988/89. They are: Greater Manchester, £80 million; South Yorkshire, £41.5 million; Merseyside, £58.5 million; Tyne and Wear, £53.3 million; West Midlands, £59.5 million and West Yorkshire, which will be given £57 million.
