• A London bus driver who crashed his double-decker into a taxi while he was drunk has been jailed for three months.
Sean Moorehead of Hammersmith was found to be more than four times over the legal limit when he was breathalysed in Kensington High Street after the accident, Horseferry Road Magistrates Court was told last week.
Magistrate James Jobling said: "1 was horrified by this. You could not even stand up."
Moorehead had been bailed for reports last month after the magistrate told him: "I don't know how you were moving with that amount of alcohol inside you."
Saleem Khan, defending, said that no one was hurt in the accident and that Moorehead, a first-time offender, had been a bus driver for 29 years. "He will now find it almost impossible to get another job," he added.
After the accident Moorhead was found to have 148 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath — 113 points over the limit.
In addition to his jail sentence Moorehead was also banned from driving for two years. After the hearing Khan said Moorehead had a drink problem and was "depressed" at the time of the offence.
