A one-day conference on the subject "What future for country buses and trains?" is being organized by the Rural District Councils Association. It will be held in the Lecture Hall of the Central Hall, Westminster, London SW1, from 11 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, October 19, and its aim is to promote local government involvement in public transport and to keep the issues in front of the Government.
Mr Eldon Griffiths, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, will present the opening address, and speakers will include Mr D. W. Glassborow, chief planning and development officer, National Bus Company, Mr A. E. T. Griffiths, executive director, passenger, British Railways Board, and Mr Leslie H. Smith, general manager, Leicester City Transport.
The attendance fee for each delegate is £3 which includes a fork luncheon at Central Hall. While the conference is intended primarily for rural district councillors, an invitation is being extended to all local authority associations and others to send delegates.
