• A recent example of the use of two-way radio in vehicles in tracking down stolen lorries has led to payment of a reward of £10 to a coach driver by the RHA on behalf of its Vehicle Observer Corps.
In recent years the VOCs have been strengthened by the enrolment of organizations with fleets of vehicles equipped with two-way radio, including Securicor Ltd. It was as the result of a radio call from this source that the coach driver almost immediately was able to spot the stolen lorry on June 21, and pass the information to the police.
The vehicle was empty but its prompt recovery made it possible to collect evidence which led to four arrests. In addition, the greater part of the stolen load was recovered.
In view of the fact that Securicor Ltd is a member of the RHA, the Vehicle Security Committee considered that the finder was entitled to the customary reward, which would be in addition to any reward he may receive from other sources.
