Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• BRSL managing director Mr L. Payne has denied last Friday's front page report in the Daily Mirror that the company was heading for collapse with the likelihood of 14,000 redundancies.

Commenting on the report, headlined "State lorry fleet faces disaster" which suggested a loss of £2.5m so far this year and a loss of £4m in the full 12 months, Mr Payne said that group profits are expected to exceed last year's profits of £1.4m.

Mr Payne said that with a fleet of 11,00C vehicles and with 1000 new vehicles bought each year it was quite possible that there were vehicles idle. The Mirror report said that 200 new Guys were standing in depots all over the country and had been for the past three months.

A further suggestion that BRSL was committed to buying substantial numbers of the specially designed Scammell Crusader for which there was no work, was also denied. The NFC said that there were only two of these vehicles in existence and total buying for this year • amounted only to eighteen.
