A CENTRE of transport studies is to

be set up at Leeds University. The initiative in this move has been taken by Mr. Thomas Lord. general manager of Leeds City Transport. following research into the future role of transport being carried out by the industrial management division of the university at the request of the city's transport committee. The committee chairman. Aid. John Rafferty, described the proposals as 'exciting news

Considerable donations have been promised from two major oil companies to support the move. Prof. A. J. Brown. .professor of economics at the university,

says it is hoped to set up Iwo new chairs in transport engineering and transport

economics. This . would be a new departure for a British university. It was also hoped to have at least two new lecturer ships.

But, he stressed. more funds were still needed for this purpose.

The centre of transport studies would bridge the faculties of technology and economics. Prof. Brown said: We hope to lay on post-graduate Courses for engineers in which they would learn some transport economics, and post-graduate courses for economists in 'which they would learn some appropriate engineering."
