THE Minister of Transport has made a scheme fixing the route of a further 19 miles of the Lancashire-Yorkshire motorway (M62) through the West Riding from Outlane, near Huddersfield, to Lofthouse, between Leeds and Wakefield. Considerable local objections were raised to the scheme, which was the subject of a public inquiry last May.

Quicker Schedules? r AST week the Minister of Labour met -11-4 leaders of the transport unions to recommend to them the acceptance of the maximum legal speed of 00 m.p.h. as a basis for calculating lorry operating schedules. The Prices Board report on rates suggested a revision of schedules. The unions were concerned about the safety aspect, but where this could be assured, they were willing to negotiate about new schedules. There will be further meetings with the Minister after union talks,
dual three-lane carriageways, will provide a new fast traffic artery linking the major population and industrial areas of Lancashire and the West Riding of Yorkshire. It will give access to the national motorway system, via MI and M6, and to Al. An important feature of the scheme is a major three-level interchange between M62 and Ml at Lofthouse.
£5 m. Australian Orders
ORDERS for 1,900 chassis have been received from Australia by the Leyland Motors group. A total of 720 truck chassis will be built by Leyland Motors Ltd., including 448 Comets, 92 Beaver and Super Beaver trucks, 100 Hippo trucks, together with 80 Leopard bus chassis and 20 Panther rearengined bus chassis.
Albion Motors Ltd. are to build 540 Chieftains, 424 Reivers and Super Reivers, 44 Clydesdales, and 72 Viking bus chassis as part of this big order.
