Ti Ili largest of the remaining private operators in the north of England, and one of the oldest established,goes off the road this week-end, when County Motor Services, Ltd.. Choppington, Northumberland, is taken over by United Automobile Services, Ltd. A small co-partnership business in which the company was associated, District Motor Services, Ltd:, Ashington, also passes out of existence.
The licences of both companies have been transferred to the United company, which takes over the services on. Monday.
County Motor Services, Ltd., a family concern of which the managing director, Mr. R. Gordon, died recently, was one of the first operators of motorbuses in the north of England, and some years ago sold part of its business —the routes operated from Newcastle to Whitley Bay and Newcastle to Edinburgh and Glasgow—to the " United."
The company continued to operate from Newcastle to Ashington, with a small feeder service by an alternative route, between Ashing-ton and Guide Post, and ou the Ashington-Lynemouth route, in conjunction with District Services, Ltd.
A long-distancehaulier's business, operated as a separate concern, is to be continued by some of the directors of the County Motor Services, Ltd.
_JOINT RUNNING APPEAL LOST. IT was eight months ago that Messrs William Pyna and Sons, Cornwall
Road, Starbeck, Harrogate, appealed against the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners' grant of a hzence to the West Yorkshire Road Car Co., Ltd. The basis of the appeal centred on the fact that the latter company was taking Over a service which had previously been run by Seanor and Co., of Harrogate, in conjunction with Messrs. Pyne, the coaches being run daily under the joint title of White Coach Tours, At the final hearing, the appeal was dismissed, the appellant having to pay the costs. The dispute has been in progress for some time.
