The National Union of Vehicle Builders and the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists are to continue negotiations with the employers' organizations for uniform rates of wages in the vehicle-building industry in Scotland. It was learned in Glasgow, a few days ago, that a joint conference would be held before the end of September.
The standard rates for tradesmen vary from 1s. 7c1, to is. 9d. The unions ask for a national rate of Is, 9d. for all tradesmen, except fitters, for whom it is requested that the minimum should be is. 8d.
