We learn with interest that a number of centrifugal clutches, products of Newton and Bennett, Ltd., Valetta Road, London; W.3, has recently been supplied to Kromhout Auto Industries, Amsterdam, for use in conjunction with Cotal electro-magnetic gearboxes, in rear-engined buses built to the order of Amsterdam Corporation.
Readers will remember that this paper published last year (on October 9.• .1936) a. description of a NewtonCotal clutch-gearbox combination, pointing out that the two units were well suited to each other, as their respective characteristics rendered each admirably adapted for service with the other. A short, report was also included of the excellent performance of a car in which the combination was installed: Corroboration of the views them expressed is afforded by the information, recently received from a correspondent, that these two transmission units incorporated in the Amsterdam rear-engined buses have given " unqualified satisfaction." ' Isle Noel Newton, managing director of the clutch concern, predicts a good future for the Newton-Cotal combination both abroad and in .this country, and has disposed of the patent rights to manufacture the centrifugal clutch in France.
