An appeal is to be lodged by Mr. Charles .Alexander, the Aberdeen fish haulier, against the Northern Scotland Licensing Authority's decision. on his application for the renewal of licences. As reported in The Commercial Motor last week, the Authority has refused Mr: Alexander -permission to aperate 10 vehicles weighing 50 tons unladen, which he has purchased since his original licence wars granted.
Aberdeen Steam Fishing. Vessel Owners' Association decided last Friday to support Mr. Alexander's appeal, The Aberdeen fishing industry generally is disturbed by the Licensing Authority's decision. The view, is held that the restriction of Mr. Alexander's services will adversely _affect the fishing trade.
lf, it is pointed out, merchants have to send their fish by rail, instead of by road, they will have to pay higher rates, the result being tha:t they will pay less for the fish. The trawler owner and the fisherman will he the losers.
The appeal is likely to .form a test, case and the highly contentious issue concerning changes of business will be raised.
