Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Russell Neath's complaint that he was unjustifiably fined .050 by the French police (CM16-22 March) sounds to me like a 2,500 franc "deposit" fine which can, in theory, be recovered from the French authorities. He should write immediately to the address on the ticket

and dispute the offence. The whole or part of the deposit may be refunded if he can convince the authorities they were over-zealous in their interpretation of the regulations (now there is a challenge!).

Any driver or haulage company with a justifiable grievance should send documentary evidence or a letter outlining how they were fined for a non-existent offence to the DOT. It might be passible to take this up with the country concerned.

Don't just write off unjustified fines.
