Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Liverpoolbased Coastline Services has been warned about its future maintenance standards by North Western LA, Martin Albu.

The company, which holds an international licence for 20 vehicles and 20 trailers, appeared at a Manchester disciplinary inquiry Vehicle examiner Eric Bober said he carried out a maintenance investigation in December. The vehicles and trailers were operated by the company out of Liverpool Docks, hauling containers within the docks and within the UK. There were seven vehicles and 20 trailers in po.ssession. Ile issued three immediate and three delayed prohibitions plus two defect notices. Since February 1993 eight immediate and nine delayed prohibitions were issued. The company had had difficulties maintaining what was an aged fleet over a number of years.

Managing director Alan Robson said he had dispensed with the company's previous maintenance contractor in December after becoming concerned about prohibitions. A contract had now been signed with Ritsons Engineering, which he was convinced would improve the situation. They had started to update the fleet and were looking at expanding.

Albu said that the situation had clearly been very unsatisfactory in the past. The company was let down by its previous contractor and it seemed to take some time for the message to get home as there were problems in both 1993 and 1994.

The LA said that if there were any further problems the company would be quickly back before him and a sterner view would be taken.
