Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Bibby Distribution Services is planning a national network of up to five road/rail warehouses in preparation for the opening of the Channel Tunnel.

First of the new depots was formerly opened last week at Wolverton, near Milton Keynes. The development, worth between £2.5 and £3 million, provides a total of around 30,000m2 of warehousing space, including 10,000m2 fed directly by rail.

The Wolverton warehouse already deals with rail-borne cargoes of spares from Volkswagen Audi Group, together with specialised steels, soap, wines, and paper. Currently, up to six trains per week load and off load at the depot. The company plans to open similar depots at up to five other sites around the country, including road/rail depots at Stepps near Glasgow, and at Newton Le Willows, near Warrington.

A spokesman for Bibby says these depots will be of a similar size to the Wolverton development, and will combine regional road services, with national and continental rail services.

Bibby Distribution is hoping to link-up with operators on the Continent through an association called Stock Europe, to build-up rail-based business. ID The Wolverton warehousing boosts Bibby Distribution's storage capacity to around 200,000e at ten depots around the country.
