Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Iveco Ford has joined the select band of truck builders offering a six-wheeler with a power output of more than 205kW (275hp) with the launch of its most powerful Cargo 6x4 tipper to date. The 2428C, powered by the 208kW (283hp) charge-cooled Cummins 10-litre engine, debuts at the RHA's Tipcon Show.

Aimed primarily at threeaxle tipper operators engaged in long-distance motorway work, the 2428C comes with the option of a 12-speed Eaton Twin Splitter gearbox in place of the standard nine-speed Fuller Roadranger. Iveco Ford claims this is the first time the Twin Splitter has been specified in a tipper.

The charge-cooled LTAA10290 engine has a peak torque of 1,145Nm (8451bft) at 1,300rpm — some 14% more than the torque output of the previously-most-powerful Cargo 2424C's turbocharged L10 lump. Two wheelbases (4.26 and 4.93m) will be offered. The 2428C will also be sold with the choice of Hendrickson Norde rubber suspension, Hendrickson two-spring steel or a standard four-spring balanced beam steel setup. Iveco Ford says that rubber suspension is becoming increasingly popular with operators because of its low maintenance costs, superior traction and good roll stiffness. It is also 140kg lighter than the standard four-spring bogie, and 240kg lighter than the Hendrickson two-spring steel suspension.

When specified with Hendrickson suspension the 4.26mwheelbase 2428C, with Twin Splitter, has a kerbweight of 6,660kg. Cargo fix 4 tandems are also to have bigger brakes — front brake shoe widths increase from 178mm to 203min, while rear shoe widths increase from 152nun to 178mm. The bigger drums only add some 6kg to the Cargo's kerbweight. Iveco Ford has also switched to an uprated front axle on the Cargo. The maximum rating rises to 7.1 tonnes, although in a 6x4 tipper, where a high front axle load is not needed, the plated weight is limited to

L700kg.

LI Dunlop and Norde have independently developed lightweight air suspension systems specifically for the drive axles of non-HGV six-cylinder Iveco Ford Cargos.
