• Four chassis manufacturers are planning a national conference aimed at setting a common industry standard on computer-aided design (('AD) equipment for bodybuilders. converters and associated suppliers who are considering adopting CAD systems.

ERF, Leyland Daf, MAN and Mercedes-Benz have agreed on the scheme and others are expected to participate.

The idea is to establish a 'common language', thus assisting the many bodybuilders who are already looking at ways of using CAD equipment to help achieve the BS5750 and IS09002 quality standards.

This is all the more important now that some chassis manufacturers insist on companies embracing these standards before they can be accepted as approved bodybuilders_ The conference will discuss the types of CAD hardware and software used by the truck makers.

Other topics will include the exchange and update of file information, copyright, improving productivity, ways of tackling the European markets. 70/156 and wholevehicle type approval.

Bodybuilders wishing to take part should contact any of the four manufacturers, or Chris Brimble at MAN's base in Swindon. Wiltshire.
