Leyland Daf offers more MAN VW list
• I _eyland Daf has extended its body-mounting back-up service with a new range of brackets and a detailed fitting manual that covers all current Leyland and Eindhoven-huilt models.
The new system, which is designed to help bodybuilders meet performance criteria for body mounting. applies to all types of bodies The relevant bracket kit is selected by using the guide to determine the recommended mounting arrangement.
Because chassis are now made from thinner, tougher steels, unladen weight reduces, so the body stresses have to be fed into the frame more carefully.
To accommodate the sheer forces felt between the subframe and body. Leyland Dal has designed new tie-rods that secure the body to a 'cupped hand bracket, which is bolted to the underside of the chassis rail.
Used in pairs, they control lateral and vertical movement of the body via the long tie rods which abut against the outside of the frame. Tightening torques are higher than before.
Standard box bodies will be secured to the chassis just forward of the drive axle area by means of fixing plates. Naturally the number and position of these will vary according to the body type.
Tanks will have their own unique method of fixing. Where fitted directly to the frame, they will have a series of machined brackets instead of the standard mounting plates. Where a sub-frame is used, tie-rods will be fitted ahead of the drive axle(s). All of the new mounting systems will he high-grade steel.
To enable bodybuilders to become more familiar with the new fitting system and the reasoning behind it, Leyland Daf is offering a series of free two-day courses at various venues around Britain.
Each event will include a full explanation on the use of the two free operating manuals which will be automatically updated.
This will he followed by theoretical and practical body mounting exercises on various I .evland Daf chassis.
Implementation of the new system will he slightly more expensive, says Leyland Daf, hut once the mounting brackets and pre-drilled holes are included 'on-line', the cost to bodybuilders will reduce.
