• Cantilever tail-lifts with capacities ranging from 500 to 9,000kg are now available in the UK through Northern Taillifts of Shipley, West Yorkshire, which is marketing the Belgian made Dhollandia range.
The first one to be adapted for use in Britain is a 4,000kg model fitted to a Volvo F7 6x4 rigid chassis, bodied by Wilson Truck Services for a customer transporting heavy machinery.
Such long loads have centres of gravity extending 1.83m from the rear of the vehicle, hence the need for a sturdy lift with a 3.5m-long platform and hydraulic support legs.
The DHSU four-tonne model adds 950kg to the kerbweight and retails at £5,000 including fitting.
