• Craven Tasker's Ulsterbased parent group Ballyvesey Holdings aims to broaden its European manufacturing position beyond the recentlyacquired 50% share in West German trailer manufacturer Blumhardt with bases in France and Holland._ The proposed moves are further examples, says marketing director John Hope, of how Craven Tasker has "gained fresh impetus" since Ballyvesey bought it from the John Brown group 18 months ago.
With a full order book stretching from 10-23 weeks, depending on the product, the Sheffield-based trailer maker will also strengthen its home customer sector, with improvements to the thermal efficiency, durability and appearance of its temperaturecontrolled bodies.
In addition, it will further develop step-framed tipper trailers and look at ways of accommodating any increase in weights or lengths.
Hope supports the idea of longer attic combinations. "The French proposal for 16.5m is a good idea and the sooner it is agreed, the better for us all." he says.
-It will not make much difference on the roads but without it our operators will be at a distinct disadvantage. Buying cycles will be affected which is bad for everyone's business."
Craven Tasker is close to achieving BS5750.
Hope believes more buyers will insist on vehicles and bodies conforming with the international standard. It will also cater for product liability.
Meanwhile, despite selling off its Lochgelly site, Craven Tasker is looking at ways of extending its UK customer service beyond that currently provided by its network of four plants at Sheffield, Burton, Garstang and Cumbernauld.
The company will mark this year's Tipcon with a new design of lightweight bulktipping body.
