THE DEBT on the Forth Bridge was unlikely to be repaid if tolls remain at their present level, outgoing Minister of State at the Scottish Office Gregor Mackenzie has warned.
He told MPs that the last four years £1.25m of unpaid interest had been capitalised.
Revenue on the Tay Bridge had so far been broadly sufficient to meet interest charges and repayment of capital. It was too early to assess the effect of the opening last September of the Frianton Bridge at Perth, but preliminary indications were that it had taken no traffic away from the Tay Bridge.
