After 42 years in the transport industry. 21 of them employed by Cardiff Transport Department, Mr. 3. F. Siddall will retire at the end of June from the position of general manager, on reaching 65 years of age. Mr. Siddall, a native of Yorkshire. entered the municipal transport industry with the Stockport Corporation Transport Department in 1920. and in April. '1941, joined the Cardiff undertaking. In 1946 he was appointed traffic superintendent, and in June, 1948, was appointed transport general manager. Mr. Siddall was responsible for totally reorganizing all Cardiff's services following the war period, including the conversion of all former tramways services to trolleybus operation, and has now commenced work on the programme for the gradual replacement of trolleybuses by motorbuses.

Mr. H. Bice, 60, has been appointed chief inspector at London Transport's central control office for Green Line Coaches.

Mr. Philip Turner, service manager for 23 years, has been appointed service advisor to the Leyland Sales Director, Mr. D. G. Stokes. This appointment means promotion for the former technical manager, Mr. F. W. Margetts, to the position of service manager; Mr.• J. M. Akroyd to the position of parts manager, and Mr. C. E. H. Finch to that of export service manager.

Mr. A. J. Bushell was last week elected chairman of the Yorkshire section of the Institute of Transport.

Mr. N. A. Slater has been appointed a director of Whitehouse Industries. Ltd.. Pontefraet, a subsidiary of Pollard Ball and Roller Bearing Co., Ltd. During the past four years Mr. Slater has been successively manager and general manager of the company.

Mr. S. C. Wicks has been appointed assistant to the general manager of Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., in succession to Mr. P. R. Barrass, who has recently left the company. Mr. Wicks was previously staff and Press liaison officer, and will continue as Press liaison officer.

Mr. R. G. Sutton has been appointed a director of Simms Motor and Electronics Corporation, Ltd. He will continue to serve as secretary and financial controller of the Simms group of companies, a post to which he was appointed in 1957 when he was also elected 'a director of Simms Motor Units, Ltd.

Mr. G. Allen has been appointed general manager, automotive sales, of The Glacier Metal Co., Ltd. He will be responsible for technical sales and commercial aspects of the company's original equipment business with the motor industry in Britain and will assume his new position on his return from the U.S. on June 1.

Broom, previously general export and parts manager, is appointed executive, home sales and service. Following the resignation of Mr. D. Henri, general sales manager, who leaves the Simms organization to become general sales manager of Ranco, Ltd., the home sales and service division has been reorganiied. Mr. R. H. Hales and Mr. A. C. Baldie become sales manager and assistant sales manager, respectively, for original equipment sales to large manufacturers. Mr. 3. R. Bell, until recently manager of the Birmingham branch of Simms, becomes controller of regional sales and service and the following regional managers have been appointed: Mr. P. &onIler (North), Mr. E. E. Surrey (North-West). Mr. L. P. 1, Pike (North-East), Mr. G. T. Botterill (South-West) and Mr. C. C. Duncombe (South-East). Mr. H. J. Aid. A. Leach, chairman for seven 3fears of Halifax Corporation's Transport Committee, has resigned from the town council after being a member for 40 years. He is a former Mayor of Halifax.

Mr. A. W. K. Horton, formerly of Mutual Finance, Ltd., Birmingham, has been appointed branch manager, United Motor Finance Corporation, Ltd., Birmingham. in succession to the late Mr. R. Cooper.

Mi. Tom _ Gray, Edinburgh's deputlii transport manager, was elected president of the Scottish Road Passenger Transport Association at the annual conference at Turnberry last week. He had been secretary for many years and was last year elected vice-president.

The council of the Institute of the Motor Industry has unanimously elected Viscount Addison as its president for the year 1962-63.

Mr. J. Collins-Thomas takes over responsibility for Avon's mileage contracts following the retirement after 40 years with the company of Mr. H. L. Stanley.

Following the recent death of Mr. B. P. R. Parsons, chairman of Bound Brook Bearings, Ltd., the board of this Birfield Group company has been reconstituted as follows: Mr. H. E. Hill (chairman), Mr. T. L. Martin (managing director), Mr, F. F. Bowsher, Mr. W. Harris, Mr. F. A. Mapstone, Dr. P. R. Marshall and Mr. W. R. Toeplitz.

Retiring on May 19 is Miss A. M. Alexander, of the south-eastern divisional headquarters staff of B.R.S. Miss Alexander, who has been in transport since 1918, started as a. junior clerk with McNamara and Co., Ltd. She became successively manager. director and managing director of Carey. Davis and Thomas (Contracts), Ltd., and among the positions she has held with B.R.S. are those of group and branch manager. .

Consequent upon the reconstitution of Railko, Ltd., as a company jointly and equally owned by British Belting and Asbestos, Ltd.. and Birfield, Ltd., the board of Railko. Ltd., will be as follows: Mr. R. G. Wahnsley (managing director). Mr. E. W. Sisman, Mr, M. J. Baty, Mr. J. E. Hooper. Mr. J. H. Icke (works director), Mr. .1. Willans (sales arid technical director). Mr. B. P. R. Parsons, the Birfield nominee who had been appointed by the Railko, Ltd., board to be chairman of the company. died suddenly last month and another director will be appointed by Birfield. Ltd.

Mr. A. A. J. Watson has been made president-elect of the National Tyre Distributors Association. Mr. Watson has for some years been chairman of the Devon and Cornwall area of the Traders Road Transport Association. He will take up office in June.
