Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I MPORTANT claims are made for the Axcaloy piston, a new product of the Lays tall Motor Engineering Works, Ltd., Ewer Street, London, S.E.1, among which are its freedom from distortion and ability to function with a

minimum clearance, without risk of seizure. These properties are, of course, of great consequence, affording increased durability of cylinder, piston and rings, reduced oil consumption and improved efficiency generally.

The outstanding feature of the design of the new piston is the employment of struts running from the underside of the crown to the thrust sides of the skirt, as well as to the gudgeon-pin bosses. These afford support where it is particularly needed, and obviate the need for machining the piston slightly oval. They also assist materially in the conduction of heat from the crown.

Arcaloy pistons are made in nine diameters from 57 ram. to 115 mm., the price of the smallest being 41 7s. and of the largest £2 2s., complete with rings and gudgeon pins. No extra charge is made for standard-diameter pistons 0.02 in., 0.03 in. or 0.04 in. oversize.
