• Another new contender in the increasingly competitive car-derived van market is the Fiat Citivan, based on the Uno estate car.
It is available with either a 1,116cc petrol engine at £4,400 or a 4,800cc diesel engine at £4,800. The Lada Samara 425 is around £1,000 cheaper. Fiat tries to compensate by fitting many of the features found on the Uno 60S saloon — cloth seats, headrests, rear wash/ wipe and laminated windscreen.
The main advantage of the Fiat is its superior load volume of 1.53m3, with a load deck length of 1.67m and width of 1.34m. Load deck to roof height is 0.97m.
The 1.1-litre transverse petrol engine produces 43kW at 5,500 revs. The diesel model has a 1.7-litre engine producing 45kW at 4,500 revs. Fuel consumption is an average 'nitres/ 100Iun and 6.21itres/1001rin respectively.
