• Twenty-five bus and coach operators in the north-east of England have come together tc set up Network Ticketing — a company which will market ak administer a range of travel tickets.
The Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive had previously operated a concessionary travel and prepaid zona ticket scheme, but the various operators felt that travel tickets had now fallen outside the scope of the PTE. Responsibility for commercial services has rested with the operators since deregulation and the PTE's coordinating role has become confined to supported services.
The new company is owned by all the participating operators: shareholdings and costs are determined by the size of each individual company's market share.
The PTE is included as one of the participants in respect of its wholly-owned Metro systen and on behalf of the operators that are contracted for supported services.
Network Ticketing, which controls sales of £12 million, has directors for nine companies, whose market share exceeds 4%. Chairman of the Board is Chris Moves, the Commercial Director of Goahead Northern, and the company is managed at its Gallowgate headquarters of Newcastle by Jude Gilbert, who used to work for Newcastle University.
