secondquarter nett profits this week, with first-half profits of around £311 million despite losses caused by a three-week strike in January. The strike was not disastrous because Volvo's reliance on cars is much lower than it was (car earnings fell from 97% in 1983 to 60% last year) and the slack has been taken up by buoyant truck sales.
