Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE RAMIFICATIONS of the CM Lorry Driver of the Year contest, this marvellous competition, are more extensive than is generally realised.

Drivers and their charges frequently get a good write-up and this must be beneficial for all in road haulage. Referring to a reader contestant, who has won through to the finals for the seventh time and is looking for prime position this year, the Southend Evening Echo carried an editorial in these words: "There can be few motorists who have not muttered oaths as they became jammed on busy roads behind a slow-moving lorry. And fewer still when they paused to consider, who have not marvelled at the professionalism of the trucker. It is one thing to manoeuvre a nippy family motor car through the lanes, quite another to inch a high, wide and not-so handsome articulated lorry through spaces that were honed to the horse and cart".

Perhaps, like the school report one might add: "Could do better." On the other hand, credit where credit is due. NIGEL BREEZE Southend-on-Sea Essex
