e told CM that the change Kisting practice was being .e to help drivers in areas where they are insufficient numbers to form local associations to gain some of the benefits of the BAOD.
And to finance this venture there is to be a membership fee levied on members who join the BAOD direct which will go to finance bulk-buying schemes and will provide the benefits normally provided by local bodies.
The committee also decided to disband the national steering committee which has been looking after the interests of the BAOD for the past seven months.
"It has done its job and is being replaced by an executive committee," said Mr Wells. The new committee under chairman George Kelly will include a member to look after the interests of the direct members of the British association.
And to boost membership the owner drivers are to embark on a recruiting drive with advertising in all areas and a series of meetings in areas which have shown less support aimed at establishing new associations.
The first of the new series of meetings will take place at the Derby Crest Hotel on Sunday September 24 at 10 am and is aimed at drivers in the Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire areas.
Mr Wells said that all owner drivers from the area will be welcome and the object will be to talk about developing amenities and benefits for the owner drivers.
This series of meetings will be followed by a nationalconference.
