Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

An articulated version of the Transit 'Inch has been developed jointly by Ford's pecial Vehicle Order division and PEM 'railers of Bournemouth is announced by 'ord today and will be available from Ford ealers throughout the UK. Visitors to the onrunercial Motor Show can see a model n the Feeney and Johnson stand.

The tractive unit is a specially adapted -ransit 175 long-wheelbase custom hassis-cab powered by either the 2.0-litre 74 petrol engine or the new small 14-litre liesel. Both petrol and diesel versions are gated at 4.60 tons gcw, the petrol-engined ractive unit weighs 28cwt and the liesel-engined version 30cwt. This allows he vehicle to be driven by a holder of a :lass 4 hgv licence. Also the licence is not 'estricted to drivers aged at least 21.

A three-line braking system is used which :oniprises vacuum/hydraulic service and :mergency brakes and vacuum/mechanical ;econdary brakes.

Transit chassis, complete with brake nodifications, load apportioning valves and • einforced frames, are shipped to PEM Trailers' works in Bournemouth, where the. mb-frame-mounted fifth-wheel coupling is idded, together with a cabinet to house the :railer braking conversion equipment.

PEM box van semi-trailers, to match the Transit artic, are built in capacities of 1000, 1250, 1500 and 2000 .cu ft and have respective weights of 21, 24, 28 and 33cwt; therefore payloads up to 2.0 tons can be catered for.

Stepped–frame trailer

The semi-trailer chassis has channel side-members and welded-in cross-members. A swan neck of 6ft with a 2ft drop provides a low loading height of approximately 20in. to 22in. A full-width fifth-wheel plate is welded into the front end of the chassis and is fitted with a BS 2in. king-pin. Heavy-duty single-speed landing gear is fitted as standard.

Suspension consists of a 3M. tubular axle with semi-elliptic springs and dampers. The Ford twin wheels are 7.50 by 14 and are fitted with 6-ply tyres. A full-size rear aluminium roller shutter is standard but various alternative options are available. The roof is of 'one-piece translucent

glassfibre with moulded,in roof sticks. Two front marker lights plus rear clusters incorporating tail lights and flashers are standard; internal lighting is available as an optional extra. The bodies are supplied complete with alloy tie rails and rubbing rails.

PEM also produce a range of flat-bed platform semi-trailers 20ft to 4 Oft in length and 7ft to 8ft in width. These models can be supplied with beaver-tail ends for extra low loading or with a 6ft swan neck with a 2ft drop to provide a low-loading platform. The approximate weight of the 2 Oft by 7ft flat-bed semi-trailer is 19cwt. which with the weight of the Transit unit will allow a useful payload of 2.25 tons. In addition to the flat-bed semi-trailers, PEM are producing a two or three car transporter. Transporters are available in lengths to suit customers' requirements. PEM car transporters are also suitable for boat or caravan transport.

All Transit attics will carry the normal 12-month Ford warranty through Ford truck specialist dealers and PEM trailer service centres throughout the UK.
