• ValueVan is the name given to a range of standardized low-cost aluminium bodies announced by Freight Bonallack Ltd, Basildon, Essex, which will be marketed by vehicle dealers. The bodies are designed to cater for vehicles in the under-30cwt and under 3-ton category. There will be no franchise agreements with dealers, who will be backed by a special dealer service department at Basildon; the fleet-user market will, as before, be covered by Freight Bonallack representatives. It is anticipated that delivery time will average about 10 days.
Luton-head vans are included in the body types available in each category; typically the recommended retail price of a box body of 488 cu ft capacity for a suitable under 30cwt vehicle costs £400. while a 488 /555 cu ft Luton body costs £440, the respective prices of a 371 cu ft box body and a 439 cu ft Luton body for vehicles of reduced wheelbase being £369 and £410. In the under 3-ton category a 710 Cu ft box van costs £548 while the cost of a 815 cu ft boxvan is £598 and that of a 900 cu ft Luton body is £645.
Mounted on a Ford Transit petrol-engined chassis of 9ft 10in. wheelbase. a 555 Cu ft Luton van provides a
payload of 1.63 tons. In the case of an 815 Cu ft box body on a Bedford KD chassis, the payload is 5.37 tons, the unladen and gross weights being "well under 3 tons" and 8.5 tons respectively. ValueVans are also available on Ford D Series, Bedford CF and BLMC 250 JU chassis.
Of modular folded-sheet construction and incorporating new types of aluminium extrusion, the bodies have sides and a front bulkhead of 18g aluminium sheet. The folded panel edges form integral structural pillars which incorporate a sealant strip. Other features include a one-piece roof of 20g aluminium and a floor of 18mrn resin-bonded plywood.
