Edward G. Dravers has been appointed general manager of United Counties Omnibus Co. Ltd. an NBC subsidiary company, as from October 1 1972 in succession to John F. Wood who retires on September 30. Mr Dravers joined Ribble Motor Services in 1937, became traffic manager of East Midland Motor Services in 1952 and was general manager of Hebble Motor Services between 1958 and 1962. In 1963 Mr Dravers became general manager of Magnet Bowling until December 1969 when he returned to the passenger road transport industry on his appointment as traffic manager of Southdown Motor Services.

Charlie Ewing has been appointed service manager of Ailsa Bus Ltd, the company set up by Ailsa Trucks Ltd to market Volvo bus and coach chassis in the UK. Mr Ewing was formerly service manager for Ailsa Trucks (London) Ltd.

Herbert has been appointed BRS Parcels Ltd, area sales manager, designate, southern area. He was formerly branch manager, Canterbury. T. G. Phillips becomes operating assistant, north-western area office. He was formerly assistant to the branch manager, Ipswich.

Donald Ashcroft, 43, has been appointed finance director of Crane Fruehauf Trailers Ltd. Mr Ashcroft was pre viously the financial director of Granada T.V. Rental Ltd at Bedford.

James Staziker, 44, assistant chief engineer with P & 0 Ferrymasters Ltd, Altrincham (Ches), will become transport superintendent to the North Western Electricity Board on September 1. The Board's transport fleet of 2200 comprises vehicles and mobile plant. Mr Staziker previously worked for Norweb from 1965-70 when he was Peak area transport engineer.

J. P. Berkshire is joining Hants and Dorset Motor Services Ltd in September as assistant traffic manager (commercial) from Maidstone and District Motor Services Ltd. Mr Berkshire will also have special responsibilities as manager of the Gosport and Fareham Omnibus Co Ltd. B. Hewkin, the present assistant traffic manager, will become assistant traffic manager (operating) of Hants and Dorset. R. Edgley Cox, 60, who began his career witF London Transport in 1936 and is chie. engineer of West Midlands Passenger Trans. port Executive, is retiring at his own request al the end of the year. Besides developing hi: farming and other interests in Gloucestershire. he intends to devote more time to his interest: in the preservation of trolleybuses, tramway and steam railways. Mr Cox's career ir municipal transport also spans periods with Bradford, Newcastle, Bolton, St Helens anc Walsall.

Alan Townsin, passenger transport editor al Motor Transport, has been appointed press and publicity officer of the West Midlands Passenger TranspOrt Executive.

David Lowe, a CM editorial staff member, has joined B. A. Davies and Partners, Kenilworth, material management consultants, as a senior consultant responsible for developing the firm's activities in transport and distribution.

Obituary

We record with regret the death of James Waddell.

Mr Waddell, 65, who was taken ill in October 1971, had been traffic superintendent, with W. Alexander and Sons (Midland) Ltd, at Grangemouth for the past 12 years. He joined the company as a driver in 1928 at Camelon, Falkirk.
