Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TE introduction of a new trailer axle is announced by Kirkstall Forge Engineering Ltd., Leeds 5.

This new axle has a full 22,500lb (10,200 kg) capacity and incorporates several novel features designed to give long life and dependability.

The main axle tube is constructed from seamless drawn EN-14B material with forged stub ends of a similar specification, submerge-arc welded to each end.

PUNISHING TESTS The complete axle beam has successfully completed the most punishing tests at the University of Ghent, Belgium, involving 5m cycles of load varying sinusoidally from 5 to 15 tons and a further 14 million cycles varying between 9 and 194 tons.

New Timken taper-roller bearings especially designed for trailers are used. These are lubricated by oil far superior to conventional grease in that it extends the life of the bearings and provides perfect lubrication properties at low temperatures.

Through the use of oil lubrication, am other problem has been successfully tackled in that the latest type of unitized oil seal is used. This special seal, manufactured in Britain by Dunlop's GRG oil seals division, effects a complete seal, not only to prevent the leakage of oil into the brake assembly but also prevents the ingress of foreign matter, further protecting the hub bearings.

SELF-CONTA1NED

The unitized seal is completely selfcontained and so its effectiveness does not rely on accurate machining of the stub shaft. Therefore, it can be repeatedly reassembled during maintenance operations with no risk of damage to the seal.

Hub caps are of a tough plastic material, incorporating a transparent window and it is possible to check at a glance that correct lubrication is maintained.

To extend brake life, the new 15+in x Sin Lockheed brake is used. It has internal adjustment at the anchor pin end of the brake shoes, eliminating the need for slack adjuster actuating levers.
