The authorities in the 31artlepools district, which is the centre of vast timber trade interests, have for some time past given serious attention to the
provision of fire-fighting equipment, and the Hartlepool Corporation is considering the advisability of coming to an arrangement with the West Hartlepool authority for the establishment of an up-to-date brigade for joint use as the most satisfactory means of safeguarding the towns.
In the meantime the watch committee of the former body has witnessed a demonstration of the Stanley fireengine, and is recommending the purchase of one of these machines at a cost of £586 in order to replace out-ofdate appliances.
