The Editor, THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR.
[2407] Sir,—I was interested to read the above article in your issue for July 28th, and feel that one point calls for comment.
Cleanliness of food is a matter which is rightly receiving a great deal more attention than it has done hitherto, and I am glad to see that the market authorities in. Manchester 00 not allow meat to be contaminated by exhaust gases from petrol vans. Are they not, however, straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel when they keep motors outside, but allow horses the run of the meat market? Surely in these enlightened times we do not need to stress the unhygienic conditions created by horse transport, assisted by the attendant flies!
If ever there was a case for electric vehicle transport the collection of meat from the market is one, and in the interests of public health further thought should be given to the question of the suitable handling of meat.—Your faithfully,
Ilford. ' S. OSBOURN SHAW.
