Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• In his undoubtedly sincere and well intentioned commentary under the heading "Recession Owner Drivers", Simon Bowdrey twice makes derogatory remarks to working for Lloyds Freight Services Ltd.

Surely he remembers the number of occasions I personally took his payment cheques to the bank to ensure he had funds to meet his obligations.

Does this really tally with his recollection of disputes over payments and the inferred suggestion of delays in turning his vehicle around which he knows to be completely incorrect?

If evidence were needed to show the good relationships we have with our customers and drivers, some of whom have been with us since our inception in 1987, he should look no further than his previous client who enjoyed and continues to enjoy a very good relationship with Lloyds Freight Services.

Or is it just that in the four years since he first worked for Lloyds Freight Services his memory has confused our professionalism with the slipshod operation of the "cowboys" with whom he says he was competing? Didn't he ever think that the best way of securing his income might he for him and his legally operating colleagues (the overwhelming majority of hauliers) to band together and report those illegal operators to the proper authorities?

Ian Lockwood, Lloyds Freight Services, Felixstowe.
