• A high roof on long-wheelbase 400 models, increased payloads on 200 models and a bigger options package are among changes to the Leyland Daf's 1993 van range.
The high-roof LWB 400s, called "Hi-Loader", get a body coloured roof as standard on 3.1 and 3.5-tonne models. It gives a load volume of 11.4m. Prices have been increased by around 2.5% across the whole range.
Short-wheelbase 400 City Models will now be available with a full range of options: 2.8 and 3.1-tonne City models previously had a limited options list.
A switch back from composite to steel springs on 200 models has allowed an increase in payloads for lighter models. The 2.0-tonne GVW model becomes the 2.2t; the 2.3t becomes the 2.4t; and the 2.5t becomes the 2.6t model. The 200 City range is also extended to include 2.2t and 2.4t GVW models. The 1,7-litre petrol engine has been dropped from the 200 range, leaving the 2.0-litre engine as the only petrol option.
The 200 and 400 vans benefit from a new option pack. Included are a sliding side load door, full bodyside lining, resin bonded floor, a mesh partition behind the driver, tie-down eyes in the load floor and an underfloor spare-wheel carrier. The Special package adds £660 to a 200 and £730 to a 400.
Other changes include extended oil-change intervals on 400 Series diesel engines — up from 7,500 to 10,000km for both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. All 400 chassis-cab, crew-cab and chassis-cowl models can now be offered with a 4m extendedwheelbase conversion.
Bodies over 3.9m long (3.0m on crewcabs) will need extra support for the chassis rear overhang. The conversion costs £737.50 (ex-VAT) and a rear overhang extension is £332 (ex-VAT).
Leyland Daf has cut the price of the 400 power steering option by 20% to £440. The 200's prices start at £7,964 (ex-VAT) for the 200 City petrol and £10,232 (ex-VAT) for the 400 City petrol.
