to find its best driver. Sixteen finalists — highest-placed Marley employees from the national Lorry Driver of the Year contest — were tested on loading and manoeuvring skills.
Tony Hawksworth, from Burton, and John Dymond, from Delarnere, won the rigid and artic sections respectively. Both receive a 2200 cheque and a trip to Volvo's truck plant in Sweden.
Amid the celebrations, spare a thought for Brian Walton of Ebchester. During the crucial crane-loading section he got his bricks in a fix, and dropped his load in front of friends, family . . . and boss. Luckily managing director Geoff Lampard saw the joke.
It was the first time in an umpteen-deliveries-a-day career that Brian had committed the ignominious act. Shame he had an audience. . .
