Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Export emphasis strong among

municipal's and electrics by Stephen Gray Mechanical components are from the Bedford HA van range including the steering-and suspension.

The 7.5 hp electric motor drives the open tiaropshaft via a flexible cog belt reduction unit which obviates the need for a .gearbox.

An interesting feature of the E700 is the cab. Formed from grp it has a tubular steel cage, steel doors and offers excellent forward visibility through a deep windscreen.

_The Oldham traction batteries are housed in steel cases beneath an aluminium load deck. They can be removed by lifting them out with a straddle beam, or dropped out through ,the bottom.

ElecTraction does not intend to compete in the milk float . market, but is aiming to find a niche alongside conventional transport.

The second generation of Lucas Industries electric vehicles, based on CF Bedfords, are on show at Earls Court on the Ogle and Bedford stands.

A development of the CF "Pullman" is a luxury crew bus which has been trimmed and restyled externally by Ogle. A front grp "spoiler" and grille blanking distinguish the crewbus.

Previous Lucas policy of mounting the batteries in a slide-out container is retained, but the batteries are now mounted below the chassis. The transmission is the same as that developed for the Lucas electric taxi, shown on the same stand, and the crewbus has a claimed range of 70 miles.

A second CF converted to electric power shares the same running gear as the crewbus and is shown on the Bedford stand in chassis cab form fitted with an hydraulic working platform.

All Lucas battery electrics use SCR chopper controllers and the batteries, which were developed by Lucas from the normal polypropylene lead acid type, are housed in an aluminium tray on the CF chassis.

The manufacturers of ambu lances and fire appliances are making a most positive approach to export markets if the examples of their wares on show at Earls Court are anything to go by. Carmichael's S&D based multi-purpose fire appliance is one of an order bound for Iran. Powered by a Rolls-Royce 681 petrol engine it has a 4,546-litre (1,000gal) water tank as well as a small foam tank.

Range Rovers seem popular vehicles for ambulance conversions and the two on show this year come from Wadham Stringer and Pilcher Greene. The Ranger Rover provides a better ride than the Land-Rover, while its big petrol engine gives plenty of power, especially in off-highway conditions.

For the home market, light vans are the most popular vehicles for ambulance conversions.

With local health authority spending reduced, ambulance makers are tending to build dual-purpose models that can double as welfare vehicles or carry emergency stretcher cases as well as wheelchair patients.

The most popular light vans for conversion on show at Earls Court are the Bedford CF, Leyland Sherpa and Commer Spacevan.

Rex Lucking is Distribution Director of Canada Dry. Six months ago they took two Rentco curtain-sided vehicles on rental to find out if they suited their needs better than Flats for the 'non-returnable' side of their business. The experiment was a success and they have now taken delivery of three more on Contract Hire, modified to their own spec. and in Canada Dry livery. But listen to Mr. Lacking. 'When we decided to test Curtainsided vehicles against our existing Flats, rental was the obvious answer. Outright purchase could have been an expensive way of maybe proving nothing. The deal that Rentco set up allowed us ample time for proper evaluation, and when it became apparent that we were winning they were flexible enough to allow us to switch into a longer term Contract Hire. That we have now taken on three more vehicles from Rentco is in itself proof that we are more than satisfied with the way things are going.

What impresses me most about Rentco is the fact that they obviously know transport extremely well and are genuinely concerned to give a customer what he needs. You never get the feeling that you are being 'pushed'. Certainly I would not hesitate to recommend Rentco."

In today's world of financial uncertainty, more and more companies are realising that Trailer Rental and Contract Hire make good sense — and more and more are choosing Rentco. Just look what Rentco has to offer, and then fill in the coupon to find out how Rentco can help you • Dependable service • Nationwide coverage • All types of semi-trailers available • All Crane Fruehauf semi-trailers • No 'hidden' extras • Complete flexibility • Your own livery on Contract Hire • Special short-term rental rates for Contract Hire customers • Competitive rates
