• A one-piece glassfibrc floor that is impregnated with marble dust is a feature of the 40ft by 8ft by 8ft aluminium TIR container produced by Collis Cold Containers Ltd. Fort Wallington. Fareham, Hants, a company claiming to be the largest supplier and leaser of' insulated /refrigerated containers in the UK.
The Collis range includes mobile shops and canteens. fish and chip vans and the smallest chassis to be fitted with a refrigerated body is an 18ewt model.
The 4011 version, largest in the range, is equipped with five longitudinal T-bar meat rails, double full-width rear doors, treble cushion seals and a double locking gear. Insulation is provided by 4in. of foamed-in-situ polyurethane material and the container is available with a Transfrig DEL 8000 unit or one of the range of units produced by the Petter company.
The 1411 container body is based on a Bedford KD 8.5-ton gvw diesel-engined chassis /cab; two of these vehicles are now operating in Saudi Arabia. Constructed of aluminium and having a ribbed aluminium reefer floor the model is lined internally with galvanized panelling. Polystyrene insulant is used in slat) form to facilitate repairs by local labour. the depth of the insulant being 5in. A single Superfreeze rear door is fitted that has three cushion seals and a double locking gear. Mounted on the front bulkhead. the Petter Thermo-King unit is provided with electric current of 220V by a petrol-eneined pack. The container is designed for chilling and freezing applications.
