TAI0 applicants for Contract A licences to carry for Derbyshire Stone Sales were successful at Hanley last week, after supporting evidence by the company, who were represented following comments made by the West Midland Licensing Authority, Mr. J. Else, at a previous hearing. (The Commercial Motor. July 16.)

J. Bradshaw. of Men-. Stoke-uponTrent, and H. C. Walchester Ltd., of Murton, Stoke-upon-Trent, both considered that the work was profitable.

Mr. Bishop. for Derbyshire Stone Sales, said the company owned three large quarrying units and needed to supplement their own fleet of 100 vehicles. They had 90 vehicles on Contract A "on paper ", but some operators were unreliable and some thought it was ." money for old rope ". He gave details of vehicle earnings giving an average of £2,000 a year and spoke of large imminent orders. The LA said that although the form of contract did not appear very favourable. he was satisfied.
