WHEN Walter Henry Alford, 65 Winchelsea Road, Rye, haulage contractor, was summoned at Rye, on charges of breaches of the conditions of his B and C licences, exceeding the 25-mile limit and permitting employees to work excessive hours, he asked for 97 other offences to be taken into consideration.

The offences were committed in connection with sea-defence works in Kent. Mr. S. G. Champion, defending, referred to many letters defendant had sent to various offices of the Ministry of Transport in an effort to obtain the proper authorization for his work.

Fines totalling £51, with £5 5s, costs, were awarded.
