EIGHT vehicles which are proposed to be discarded next year are not to be replaced, according to a report by the general manager of Wigan Transport Department. A cut in mileage of 50,000 a year had made this possible. The direct saving in consequence would amount to £36,000.
Intervals between engine overhauls had been increased to 200,000 miles during the past year. [The hope that this would soon be possible was reported in an article on the Wigan
undertaking in The Commercial Motor on December 4 last. Major overhauls were then effected at 160,000 miles.]
