Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ALTHOUGH commercial vehicle output at 240,093 in 1953 was 1 per cent. lower than in 1952, the proportion of vehicles under 15 cwt. carrying capacity to the total production was 51.3 per cent., the highest figure recorded. The proportion of goods vehicles exceeding 6 tons, at 15,028, was nearly 2,100 greater than in 1952.

These facts are given in "The Motor Industry of Great Britain, 1954," published last week by the Society of Motor. Manufacturers and Traders, 148 Piccadilly, London, W.1.

• The number of commercial vehicles and trailers exported to the Continent in 1953 was 16,306, to America 6,116, to Asia 8,565, to Oceania 9,198 and to Africa 29,178. Australia was the best customer, taking 22,108. British West Africa bought 8,119 and South Africa 7,007. Denmark purchased 6,212 vehicles, British East Africa 4,719, Belgium 4,515 and New Zealand 4,330.

Commercial-vehicle exports of the U.S.A. last year totalled 134,435, or 23,100 more than the British figure. Canada exported 17,245, France 22,932, Italy 1,352 and Western Germany 39,604.
