Russell of Bathgate Purchase Another 19 Vehicles, But Assign Some of Them

(Stand 39), with . 45-ft. light-alloy escape ladder, which is to go into service in Cumberland; a Karrier Gamecock chassis is used. Folding doors for the crew section of the cab, and side roller shutters to cover the equipment, are featured.

The Windover-Commer fire-service water tender (Stand 11-7) has a cab built separately from the body, with side panels in bright Stucco aluminium A lightweight auxiliary pump is carried in a compartment behind the cab: a ramp is incorporated so that the pump can slide to ground level, afterwards being wheeled into place.

For Fire Brigades

The Dodge Kew fire tender (Stand 61) for Hampshire has an Ajax escape ladder. Where operation on difficult terrain is likely, the LandRover fire pump (Stand 85) should make a special appeal. A Thornycroft Nubian 4 x 4 chassis is used for the Pyrene airport crash tender shown by University Commercials and Coachwork, Ltd. (Stand 129).

This is not the fashionable season for cleansing vehicles to parade, but one demonstrative of current developments is displayed by Bromilow and F.dwards, Ltd. (Stand 46). With a 20-cu.-yd. welded body of Fin. steel plate, this machine incorporates a Dennis Jubilant six-wheeled chassis. Designed especially for the transport of light ash in bulk, the body has doublefolding covers on top which are divided into four sections, each of which can be opened or closed individually from the ground by means of a series of four levers on each side.

The Edbro-B. and E. Model A7 15-toncapacity twin underbody tipping gear is operated by a combined power take-off and awash-plate pumping unit. A tipper on a Karrier chassis, fitted with Edbro gear and destined for the Kent Roads Department, is exhibited by Edwards Bros. (Tippers), Ltd. (Stand 47).

Tipper for Cleansing

Holmes (Preston), Ltd. (Stand 132), have a HomaHoy fixed-sided end-tipping body for public authority work. Mounted on a Karrier Bantam chassis, this machine has Edbro tipping gear and the interior is smooth surfaced to ensure a clean discharge. The loading line is 50 in. from ground level. The Gamecock chassis with TS3 two-stroke oil engine is displayed by Karrier (Stand 95) with a 10-cu.-yd. refusecollecting body of the Chelsea type.

On this occasion the municipal products of the Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd. (Stand 98), are represented solely by a three-stage tower wagon on the Thames oil-engined chassis. The Bedford-Lacre left-hand-drive sweepercollector is among machines available for demonstration.

From this review of tipping gears and special-purpose types of vehicle, it will be evident that, in the main, makers have consolidated on designs the basic units of which have proved themselves over long periods of service.
