riNHE first International Commerj_ cial Motor Transport Exhibition at Earls Court for 11 years will be, I run quite confident, the finest of the series to date. Instead of, as before the war, two years' ideas and technical improvements, we shall be displaying the fruits of a much longer period of progress.
Accelerated by the demands of a long and bitter war, the design change s, greater efficiency and • general all • round developments incorporated in the products of all sections of the commercial vehicle industry will be on show for the world to see.
It will be an important occasion for all of us; it will direct attention to the efforts of our manufacturers iv
the export field in a way that pages of statistics cannot hope to . do. Further, it will give our own operators an idea of what is in store for them when the delays and restrictions on home-market trading are removed.
Above all, it is the focal point of the industry's present drive for overseas trade. While the emphasis on exports continues we must devote the major part of our resources to providing the vehicles that our over seas customers need. We can be proud of the fact that already we are exporting five times the 1938 figures.
Earls Court, then, is of immense importance to the industry, and I wish every exhibitor there good fort tine,
