The •gtowth of vehicular traffic in London during recent years is illustrated by statistics and diagrams, and the report contains an analysis of the police accident records for the years 1927 and 1928. It deals with the effect of roundabout and one-way systems of traffic working.

A notable feature is a map on the 6-in, scale showing the location of all fatal street accidents occurring from 1920-1928 inclusive in all area from Ilighbury in the north to the "Elephant and Castle" in the south, and from Marble Arch in the west to Bow in the east. There is also a separate report On street accidents to 'children in Greater London.

An Application to Darlington.

Manchester General Motor Coaches have made an application to Darlington Corporation for licences in respect of limited-stop services linking up Liverpool and Newcastle-on-Tyne, and Newcastle-under-Lyme and Newcastle-on: Tyne: The application has been adjourned to enable the company to submit particulars of routes and timetables.

A Combination Tractor-tanker.

With reference to the article concerning a Foden tractor-tanker which was published in last week's issue of this journal, we have been asked to point out that the vehicle has been constructed to the order of Robert Brett and Sons, Ltd., road transport contractor, 1, St. Margaret's Street, Canterbury. This company acts as official transport contractor to South-Eastern Tar Distillers, Ltd., of Canterbury.

Chelmsford Licensing Decisions. The watch committee of Chelmsford Corporation has considered applications from two bus proprietors for the issue of licences to pick up passengers when passite; through Chelmsford on the following routes :—Mr. C. Taylor, of Braintree—London to Braintree ; Mr. W. W. Seal, of Chadwell Heath—Stratford to Mahlon. The committee recommends granting the application of Mr. C. Taylor for two buses but not that of Mr. W. W. Seal. • Bus Affairs in Glasgow.

It is stated that the private bus concerns which operate within the city

boundaries of Glasgow have expressed 'their willingness to enter into an agreement with the Glasgow Corporation, whereby competition with municipal services operating within the city will be withdrawn. It is expected that some official announcement on the latest development in Glasgou's bus transport affairs will be made in the course of the next few -weeks.

LEATILERHEAD Urban District Council is to buy a motor ambulance at a cost not exceeding £900.

. The watch committee of Gr.ossor, Corporation recommends the purchase of an additional ambulance for police purposes.

The gas committee of STOHE-O.N. TRENT Corporation has decided to obtain quotations for the supply of two SO-cwt. lorries and a lighter vehicle.

The highways committee of Ftimm:st Borough Council. has obtained sanction to • borrow £4,548 for the purchase of • seven motor vehicles for refuse collec tion.

" The fire-brigade committee of EAST Ham Corporation has accepted the quotation of Dennis Bros., Ltd., at 11,409, for the supply of a 500-700-ghlIon 60-70 h.p. fire-engine.

The tramways committee of Dovrat Corporation recommends the purchase of three motorbuseEs -and, at the end of the year, is to consider a proposal for replacing the tramways by bus services.

The watch committee of CHELMSFORD Corporation has asked the borough engineer to obtain particulars of a Dennis trailer appliance so that the use of the old fire-engine may be discontinued.

The health committee of LOWESTOFT Corporation recommends the purchase of an additional Pordson tractor (to be used in connection with the 'cesspoolemptying machine) at an estimated cost of £250.

TRA1EE Urban District Council is inviting tenders for the supply of 'a motor fire-engine and particulars can be obtained from the clerk of the council, Urban Council Chambers, Tralee. Tehders have to be delivered by October 8th.

Leyland Motors, Ltd., Merrytveather and Sons, Ltd., and Dennis Brothers; Ltd., are to be invited to give practical demonstrations at Morecambe of their motor Are-escapes prior to a final selection being made by MonEc.ki.raE Corporation.

CLEETHoams Urban District Council requires a refuse-collecting vehicle with a capacity of 7 cubic yds. A vehicle with a low loading line and a short turning radius is required. Further particulars can be obtained from the cleansiug superintendent, Poplar Road, Cleethorpes, and tenders have to be delivered by October 8th.
