• An aerodynamic fairing kit for Scania 6x2s has been developed by design firm Aeroglide of Kings Lynn, Norfolk.
The set of fibreglass panels on a treated steel sub-frame costs about £5,000 to install. Aeroglide managing director Gerry David says that the kit could save up to 25% on operator's fuel costs.
The kit comprises a cab air deflector, cab side panels, an over-bumper, spray suppression whiskers and chassis fairings with lifting panels for access. It also includes an adjustable roof flap, which can be moved up and down electrically by up to 150mm from inside the cab.
Initially Aeroglide will use Diss-based contract-hire firm Roy Humphrey to fit the kit, which takes two to 21/2 days. The body kit is held on to the subframe by 12 bolts.
So far the system, which weighs around 140kg more than a standard Scania aerodynamic kit, is available only on 6x2 Scanias, but David is working on a 4x 2 version. Eventually he hopes to develop a kit for another marque.
David, who spent a year designing the kit, hopes to sell 240 in the first year. It will go on sale later this month and agents will be appointed.
