Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Daihatsu has facelifted its old 850 micro van which now becomes the Hi Jet, and goes on sale in the UK following its recent debut at the Motor Show.

The Japanese-built Hi Jet retains the same basic driveline as the previous 850 model, including its 29kW (39hp) petrol engine and fourspeed gearbox. Its overall body length, however, has been increased by 70mm, while its cargo bed has also been lengthened by 60mm and the van's overall width increased by 20mm.

The Hi Jet's loading height has also been reduced, and its door apertures have been widened to improve driver access. Payload remains at around 600kg.

Like the Bedford Rascal, the Hi Jet is produced in a wide variety of versions including a high and low roof van and pick-up and also with the option of a diesel engine. Daihatsu's UK importer TKM has yet to decide which models to sell in the this country, beyond the standard low-roof micro van priced at 23,699 plus VAT.

Last year, TKM sold 1,500 Daihatsu 850 micro vans, or 21% of Daihatsu's 7,000 UK vehicle import quota. TKIVI's decision not to bring in a van version of the diesel Charade — versions of which are currently available in Ireland — could give the company more room within its quota to bring in a number of different Hi Jet models next year, including a diesel van, which would challenge Bedford's Rascal for a major slice of the growing UK micro van market
