• Environmental objections from the Borough of Watford and local residents have led to Metropolitan Licensing Authority Air Vice Marshal Ronald Ashford imposing a restriction on the number of vehicle movements that can be carried out during the night at the Watford depot of National Carriers.

The company had applied to add 27 vehicles and 44 trailers based at Balmoral Road, Watford.

The application was opposed by the Borough Council and local residents gave evidence about noise disturbance, particularly at night. The council also expressed concern about traffic congestion.

In granting the application with a condition that vehicle movements between the hours of 2100 and 0630hrs should normally be limited to 30, Ashford said that traffic congestion was a matter for the Highway Authority.
