Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

BLUE CIRCLE Industries is to make up to 250 of its drivers redundant by the end of 1981 due to the slump in the construction industry.

At North Ferriby on Humberside, 34 drivers will lose their jobs while 30 will go at Swanscombe, Kent, and a further 10 at Northfleet in Kent. The company's lime manufacturing plant at Rochester will close by the end of the year, and 23 drivers will be made redundant.

BCI says that at this stage it is impossible to forecast where the remainder of the redundancies will be made. It seems likely, though, that the Kent area will be the hardest hit with the Swanscombe plant closing down completely and the Northfleet plant trimming its capacity by 50 per cent. North Ferriby will also close down eventually.
